I can’t help but think that the CEP project is desperately trying to run before it can walk. Stage one of this T-Rex at nearly 200 million dollars will have a mighty big appetite if we don’t feed it regularly and to be honest, we haven’t even done the study to find out what it eats. Who knows, if it gets really hungry it might just eat the lot of us with not so much as a burp. If I were the Council, I would be trying to find someway of training T-Rex to feed itself.
An innovative way would be to offer an International College of Performing Arts as part of the project concept and start with the cheaper stage 2 first. This would give us a smaller 600 seat theatre, shops, cafes, rehearsal rooms and an International Performing Arts College using the venues for performances. Each of these components would return an income immediately on completion. We could then build T-Rex and it would start to feed itself straight out of the box.
I intend to put the Performing Arts College proposal for Cairns on the agenda for the up coming State Election. The college could start with as few as 90 students and could offer courses in Dance, Music, Theatre and Stage Management.
