Lack of Insurance Irresponsible Hurts Queensland Credibility and Shows Disregard for Assets

The Leader of Queensland’s Australian Party, Aidan McLindon, has condemned the Queensland Government’s failure to cover its assets with disaster insurance. Queensland is the only major state without comprehensive disaster cover.

“This is irresponsible and must be addressed immediately,” said Mr McLindon.

“The Labor Government has shown a complete disregard for Queensland’s assets since it was re-elected. Unfortunately, it is not surprising that a government that does not believe in the value of keeping its assets also does not believe it is worth insuring them.”

“This completely destroys Queensland’s credibility with the Commonwealth Government and the other states. How can the Queensland Government argue effectively for a fairer distribution of GST and other grants when it goes solo in stupidity over insurance? It is little wonder that Federal Senator Nick Xenophon is linking the flood levy to this condition.”

“It is also a great disservice to the people of Queensland and should not be accepted.”

“It is obvious Labor have not done their homework over this, because instead of being able to provide real figures to back up their excuse that insurance is too expensive, they Government is now scrambling to get a quote.”

“The Australian Party believes in a strong Queensland Government that can effectively engage Canberra to get the best for our state. Part of this is ensuring that the state maintains an impeccable record of good governance.”
